Citizens Electoral Council leader Craig Isherwood today called on the Australian Government to use its influence with the Israeli Government, to demand it stop its invasion of Gaza.
“If Australia is to be a true friend of Israel, we should insist Israel end this act of supreme insanity,” Mr Isherwood said.
Mr Isherwood was adding his voice to the condemnation of the invasion by American statesman Lyndon LaRouche, who on 3rd January, characterised Israel’s attack as “another failed Anglo-Saudi operation.”
Mr LaRouche identified Likud head Benjamin Netanyahu, a candidate for prime minister in the February elections, who has been goading the Olmert Government to escalate its offensive against Gaza, as “typical of those Israelis who are fully under the grip of the British. Netanyahu is the living embodiment of that British agent Jabotinsky.”
(Vladimir Jabotinsky was a 1930s, pro-Nazi fascist, denounced by Israeli founding father David Ben-Gurion as “Vladimir Hitler”, for whom Benjamin Netanyahu’s father worked as private secretary.)
“No sane Israeli, and no sane Arab would go with this madness—except under the most intense manipulation by the British and their Saudi partners,” LaRouche said. He described the Israeli attack as “another Truman failure,” referring to former U.S. President Harry Truman’s endorsement of the partition of Palestine—against the strong objections of Gen. George Marshall, who warned about the consequences of rejecting a single, bi-national Palestinian state.
Mr Isherwood concluded, “U.S. military strategists contacted by our Executive Intelligence Review news service concur that the Israeli move is insane.” He cited one retired Middle East specialist who noted, “Unless the Israelis are prepared to fight house-by-house, until they reach the Mediterranean beaches, to fully uproot Hamas from Gaza, they are doomed to fail. And I just do not believe that the Israeli military is prepared or capable of doing that. The Israelis continue to delude themselves that Hamas can be terrorised into capitulating.”
